Editor's Note

Dearest Reader,

Temporarily contain yourself. You hold in your hands the VOL. 4, Winter 2009 edition of I ATE THE SPIDER. Sure it took a long time, but RELAX—we're here for you, now. Go ahead and loosen that grip so you don't crease the cover. Breathe deeply. Roll your neck around like a boxer. Soak in your surroundings. Salute your loved ones and enemies. Glance inside your distorted mental mirror and appreciate what you are at this moment. You have forever to recall what happens next, forever to know the contents of the following sentence, the flavor of your next burp even, but NEVER AGAIN will you have this moment of not knowing. There is a freedom in this ignorance. Revel in it.

It's 2009—the beginning of the end of the ‘00's, the swift gliding into our very own version of the ‘10's—a phrase up till now you've probably only associated with history book times. Get excited. You are living history. WE are living history, Reader. Believe it. A hundred years from now bored sixth graders will learn about life in 2009, and your disembodied spirit will say you were there.

We've got a good feeling about this, Reader. A REAL good feeling. You are so much more than that blinking blue dot on Google maps. We just hope you see it too. Sure, this MOMENT might not actually become MOMENTum, but let's not worry about that. We're here together, right? Can't that be enough? Isn't the cusp of something also something?

We'll leave that to you to decide. In the meantime, be well. It helps us sleep easier.
